The machines

Every machine this arcade can run — the ones we built, and the ones players published from the Machine Builder.

What a machine is here

Every machine in this arcade is a definition rather than a program: a playfield, the devices on it, and the rules that score them. Nothing on the page is a file somebody uploaded — the art, the sounds and the lettering are all generated in code when the machine loads, which is why there is nothing to download and nothing to wait for.

The same definition runs in a browser and on a Quest 3, against one simulation stepped a thousand times a second. A game you play in a headset can be re-simulated afterwards and produce the same score to the last digit.

One is always free

NEON NOVA plays in full with no account, no download and no payment — the whole machine, the whole rule set, and the same physics every other machine uses. Pro unlocks the rest of the roster on every device you sign in on.

Where the rest come from

We built the machines this arcade opened with, and players can publish more from the Machine Builder. A published machine is data in exactly the same way ours is — it cannot bring code with it, so playing a stranger’s machine is as safe as playing one of ours.
